Working on methods and results
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will provide an introduction to computer programming principles and their application
in a Geographic Information Systems environment. Principles will be introduced using a common GIS scripting language and other
software scripting. Once programming principles are understood, students will begin to learn the structure of ArcObjects the major
programming language of ESRI’s ArcGIS products. Students will master the use of Visual Basic application (VBA) to manipulate the
basic mapping objects, like map documents, layers, symbology, spatial and non-spatial dataset, the database, and layouts. The
coursework will involve developing a more advanced program using an extension of choice.

The Geography Department at SIUC will be offering 2 GIS workshops this summer. They will be broken up into 2 parts. Part 1 will be a more basic understanding and application of Arcmap and GPS. Part 2 will build on part 1 and give an intermediate understanding of GIS using ArcMap. I will post information about this workshop as I have it.
Database management is the focus of this semester. The 2 undergrads are working on the structures for each county. You can really find out how much is wrong with data when you go line by line.
The project is on the SIUC geography department website.

I am looking forward to working with Dr. Wang, Dr Therrel, Dr. Oyana.
